PowerPhotonic, a leading manufacturing of wafer scale micro-optics and head quartered in Dalgety Bay, Scotland, has appointed Mark McElhinney as CEO of PowerPhotonic Inc. Mark’s initial focus will be quickly establishing US engineering & manufacturing operations that will directly serve the North American Defense market.
Mark’s career experience is ideally suited to the goal of establishing the operational excellence of PowerPhotonic Inc. Notably, he has strong current expertise in leading the development and manufacture of laser products for directed energy markets and delivering high-tech solutions for mission-critical defense applications. He also has a strong background in government contracting.
Mark was President of Lasertel 2003 to 2020, during which time it was acquired by Leonardo Electronics USA. Post-acquisition, he remained as President and initiated projects that grew revenue by more than 400%.
Prior to Lasertel, Mark was a founder and Technical Director of Spectracom, which was bought by ADC Telecommunications in 2000. Mark went on to become Director of Engineering at ADC and further enhanced that business by successfully developing and launching a range of fiber products for the telecom market. Mark started his professional career as a device engineer at Motorola Semiconductors, before moving onto Pirelli in Milan, where he helped establish DWDM amplifier and pump laser manufacturing.
Mark has a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Glasgow.
